Playing with my new toys!

Oh, and are they fun! My second favorite man paid me a visit... Mr. Brown. (Of course Ray is my very favorite, but he never comes to the door carrying a Stampin' Up box in his arms.) I finally ordered the new alphabet that I've been eyeing since the new catty came out. So I quickly cut and mounted the new stamps, all 84 stamps between the three sets (ABC Alpha Upper / Lower / and ABC Images), and began playing. I think there is a real versatility in these stamps, but for me now, they scream Kindergarten and back to school. So here is another teacher card I whipped up.....

The size of this card is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" square. I glued a strip of cardstock in the standard envelope so this little guy wouldn't slide around. To jazz it up a bit, I punched a 1" circle in the envelope so the paper peeks through. Then, just to top it off, I created another apple image and "popped" it up in the circle. If you're wondering, I used Brocade Blue paper and ink, I used the blender pens to color in the apple and the background of the card is the Flannel Plaid BG stamp. Enjoy!

Amber's Top 10

Occassionally I watch Lettermen and I'm mildly amused at his top 10 lists, so I thought I might create my own now and again. Today's Top 10........

Top 10 Reasons You Should Start Scrapbooking

10. You're not getting any younger, why not work on something to leave behind so your great, great, great someone will have a clue of who you are.

9. The new season of Lost and Grey's Anatomy haven't started, so you probably don't have anything better to do on Wednesday or Thursday night.

8. A box of photos doesn't look very attractive on your coffee table, but a scrapbook sure does.

7. I know you've got a supply of pretty paper that is just dying to be used.

6. It doesn't have to be complicated... simple is in. Just pick out some nice paper, slap on a few pictures and write a couple sentences - don't make it any more complicated than that.

5. You can "Scraplift" - if you're feeling less than super creative, go online or dig out an old magazine and pick a layout that you like. Let it inspire you and create your own version, or copy it exactly - that's ok.

4. A new 40% off coupon comes each week, so head to Micheals or AC Moore and buy yourself an album - 6x6, 8x8, 12x12 - whatever you want to work with.

3. You only have to scrapbook the pictures you like. Don't worry about those ones of you with your eyes closed or before you lost the 25lbs, cut out the ex, pass on those of long ago friends you can't even remember the names of. Just pick out a few of your favorites and get creative. Throw the rest of the pictures in a cheap photo album from Target.

2. Scrapbooking is much more fun than laundry, dishes and cleaning the oven. But even if you are feeling guilty, turn the oven on self-clean, run the dishwasher and start a load of laundy... you've got at least 40 minutes to get started!

And the Number 1 reason you should start scrapbooking......

1. All the popular girls are doing it! :)

The Boys and their Water Rocket

I didn't realize that a $9 find at Wal-Mart would make me Queen for the Day! The boys thought I was the best Mommy ever when I came home with this fun rocket launcher-sprinkler-thingy... even Ray got in on that action. They were able to get the rocket to hover at about 15 feet off the ground and then it would spin around and shower them - worlds apart from the old school oscillating sprinklers of my day. Anyway, it was fun and still is - the benefit two-fold - the boys are entertained and at least one spot of the lawn gets a nice drink.

Getting Ready for School

I know Connor is excited about starting Kindergarten, but I'm not sure if he's excited about the whole thing as I am. Even though we will be doing a little bouncing around at the beginning of the school year, he will get started on September 4th here in Virginia Beach at Salem Elementary. I didn't think he should go empty handed on the first day, so I made this card to accompany a nice shiny apple that day.... hey, nothing wrong with helping the little guy earn a couple of points, right?

This card is really simple and it uses the Give Thanks and Circle of Friendship stamp sets. I created the "notebook" paper myself by drawing lines with my Stampin' Write markers. Some of the other accessories I used were the Aqua pens for watercoloring, the 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" circle punches along with the fabulous index punch, some red gingham ribbon and a few pop-dots to raise the circle sentiment. Pretty simple but sweet!
